SSG defeated the Doosan Bears in the 2025 Shinhan Sol Bank KBO League 5-2 at the Munhak SSG Landers Field on Sunday. SSG, which had its opening two consecutive wins after winning the opening game 6-5 on the previous day, tied for first place with the LG Twins and the Samsung Lions.

The 0 balance was broken in the third inning. SSG had its first chance to score a point with no outs and runners on the first and second bases in the bottom of the third inning with a walk by leadoff hitter Ko Myung-joon and a hit to the left field by Ahn Sang-hyun. Park Ji-hwan stopped short of a fly ball to the right field, but Jihoon Choi made a lucky hit to the middle field, leading to a chance to load the bases with one out. Jeong Joon-jae then hit a timely hit by the opponent team's starting pitcher Rogue, and scored the first run with two RBIs and a timely hit to the left field.

SSG, which gave up a point in the top of the fourth inning, scored a valuable additional point with a timely RBI by Jung Joon-jae hitting Rogue's first pitch again in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs and runners on the first and third bases.

After allowing two runs with eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings, SSG's starting pitcher Kim Kwang-hyun left the mound after meeting the requirements for his first win of the season. SSG sealed its victory in the bottom of the seventh inning with Jihoon Choi's timely hit and Herredia's sacrifice fly ball.

"Today, we were able to secure our second consecutive victory thanks to the ace's quality pitching and the contributions of our team's future fielder Young Guns," SSG coach Lee Soo-yong said after the game. "(Kim) Kwang-hyun, as an ace, led our team to victory by displaying strikeouts and crisis management skills even when our defense was faltering," adding, "(Jung) Jun-jae) made up for the disappointment in the field on Sunday. He showed great performance in offense with three RBIs, but made the starting pitcher's shoulder lighter by banking on his stellar defense in the top of the second inning."

"I was worried about (Park) Sung-han's absence, but (Ahn) Sang-hyun erased that concern. (Choi) Ji-hoon and (Park) Ji-hwan also contributed to the team's offense with multiple hits," coach Lee said. "I hope we will not forget that the main players won the game together despite the difficult situation of injury, and will be able to show our current side in the next game. Finally, I would like to thank the fans again for making the audience full for the opening two consecutive games."

Jung, who had no hits in three times at bat and even committed an error, made up for his disappointment by scoring two hits and three RBIs the next day. "I think I was the most nervous since I played baseball in the opening game yesterday (Sept. 22). I enjoyed the game in the final round for the fifth place last year, but it wasn't easy to enjoy this season's opening game. I felt like I was floating a little bit," Jung said with a smile. "I was more nervous after yesterday's error, but fortunately, I completely relaxed after the good defense of the diving catch today. Thanks to that, I got good results at bat as well."

The point of hitting the opponent's left-hander log was the fastball. "I was always confident in fastball, so I went in with the aim. My goal was to hit the first pitch when I was at bat with my second RBI. I was going to hit the first RBI short, but fortunately, it resulted in a good result," Jung nodded.

Kim Kwang-hyun, who achieved his first win of the season, praised Jung Joon-jae's performance, saying, "Jung Geun-woo was a rising defense."

In response, Jung said, "I don't think I'm going to be enough yet. I'll do my best to be recognized more clearly by others. Still, I will be able to confidently say that I'm the main second baseman now."
